Article Title: Fusion Bonding of Pyrex/Silicon Window Cells by Dr. Thomas R. Gentile and John Fuller  

Abstract: Further advances in neutron science are requiring the use of Pyrex/silicon-windowed cells. Silicon, being practically transparent to neutrons, is an excellent choice as a window material. Because of its compatibility with Pyrex, which can be optically pumped, a suitable cell can be made for this research.

In this paper, we explore some of the ways ultraviolet light affects certain glasses to alter their color.  We concentrate on solarization, its history and chemistry.  Solarization is compared with reversible darkening of photochromic ophthalmic glass.
